Higher than average pay
Most building trades require a high level of skill, which is acquired after numerous years of supervised work combined with college classes to understand the theory and the maths. Even unskilled positions, such as labourers, offer a reasonable level of pay, and this is one reason why many Aussies choose the construction sector as a chosen occupation. Tradies such as carpenters, bricklayers and electricians make very good money, especially if they are self-employed, while there is a constant demand for tradespeople of both genders. You only have to look at the classified section of local newspapers to see that tradespeople are in high demand. All trades are in great demand, and this is one of the reasons why young people are studying building trades at colleges and working as apprentices until they gain enough work experience to become fully certified.
